We talk about the Centaur optionally piloted aircraft which was tested previously at Griffiss for their unmanned flight test campaign. [Download]
John Reade
John is working with AFRL (Air Force Research Laboratory) and two Desert Hawk III UAVs from Lockheed Martin to do collision avoidance testing in the “triangle” at Griffiss. Also, Quanterion’s subcontractor Agent Technology Center has developed simulation software that evaluates the interactions of manned and unmanned aircraft in shared airspace. [Download]
Col Mike Smith
The MQ-9 is a Remotely Piloted Aircraft, not a drone as there is always a pilot. The MQ-9 was developed for the military, and now the need is to integrate them into the national airspace. Sense and avoid is the focus now. [Download]
Rose Mooney
MAAP is the Virginia, Maryland, and New Jersey UAS Test Site focusing on safety research for airspace integration. MAAP is working with a number of newsgathering organizations on that application, as well as package delivery for remote-area medical, cyber security and beyond visual line-of-sight. [Download]

Lockheed Martin developed and deployed safety and situational awareness tools within the Flight Services infrastructure. Similar to manned flight plans, they created unmanned operating areas. UAS operators input information that is made available to the manned community. Maps show a graphical representation of unmanned operations in the NAS. [Download]
Jeff Kulikowsky
Jeff wants to understand the topics he reports on, but he also has an interest in how the developing UAS industry affects the region. Of course, Jeff is also interested in how UAS can change news gathering. [Download]
